Here’s our first true attempt at underwater portraits. We’ve been gearing up for this ever since we had our pool finished last spring. We’ve worked through the majority of the kinks and we’ve still got a few more hurdles to cover, but everything seems highly plausible now. Many thanks to Kandiss and Gretchen for their tireless efforts in the pool during this shoot. It was not easy for them, but the results are outstanding.
I’m loving this! It’s outrageously fun to shoot and completely different from anything else being created in our area. I’ve got to thank someone I don’t even know though…Howard Schatz. Mr. Schatz is the foremost expert on underwater portraits and truly originated the art form about 15 years ago in the pool behind his house. Without his inspirational images, I wouldn’t be heading down this path.
Here’s a handful of images from this first session and i’m already planning a second…and a third…and a fourth! Keep looking out for more to come. For those who are interested, yes, this is a background in the pool. We used SoftSpin from American Photographic Resources out of Texas. It works great underwater and is easy to work with.
